Determinations astrometriques. Le Soleil est-il aplati? Recherches et perspectives nouvelles. 2. La masse du Soleil, selon les determinations les plus recentes.

7 - Van Flandern • Astron. J. i. nO 1, p. 81. S. Naval Observatory Systematic trends in the semi-diameter of the Sun from measurements made with the Cape Observatory transit circle in 1834 and from 1861 to 1871 and 1884 to 1892 (the only years for which raw observations of the solar limbs were available to us) should probably be attributed to large variations in the personal equation of the individual observers rather than to any real variation of the solar diameter. An analysis of Washington six-inch observations from 1899 to 1903, 1911 to 1918, 1956 to 1971 and 1975 to 1981 does not support any significant secular change in the solar diameter.

Note : Some general references are referred to by letters and appear in the first part of bibliography, other appear as usual and refer to the second part of bibliography. As seen from Sirius, the Sun would appear as a very ordinary star. This idea has been overused, for years (see E, F, G); it has at least accustomed the stellar physicist to the idea that any star is more complex than one can describe it through the two-dimensional physical approach of its structure; in the recent years, the space research has given us many additional observational arguments; the stellar world displays both complexity and diversity.
